Uttarakhand a Land of Mystery and Adventure
Updated: Apr 3
Uttarakhand one of the most sacred places in India!
When I was working in Delhi for a brief period, I had the opportunity to stay back and work for a couple of weekends. I was damn sure to explore the places around. Little did I knew about the attractions nearby. After hours of search on Google, narrowed it down to Auli.
Auli is in the state of Uttarakhand, situated at an elevation of 2909 meters. It is surrounded by coniferous and oak forests. During December time, Auli was offering Skiing, I didn't want to miss it.
Skiing at Auli
From Joshimut, one must take local transport( This is the preferred mode since driving to the top requires local road sense and familiarity to the situation that may arise when there are slippery roads due to Snow, etc..,)
Once you reach the Base, to do skiing, you need to take a cable car in order to reach the Skiing area.
I performed Skiing at Auli for the first time. There are good trainers at the camp. They are trained, and very helpful teach you the basics of skiing. After a brief training, I was able to ski. It was a thrilling experience.
Due to the high elevation, I felt a little sick. I returned to the base to get back to the hotel, as it was getting late too. Sunset at Auli or any other peak is earlier and shorter.
Zipliner at Haridwar and a Holy Dip
Rishikesh offers lot of opportunity to perform adventurous activities. Like, Hot Air Balloon, River Rafting, Trekking, Zip Liner Etc.., The terrain and rich water source makes Rishikesh adventurous activity friendly. I had the opportunity to do Ziplining followed by a Holy dip at River Ganga.
Zipliner was established between a concrete structure. Starting point was a top of the building and connected to a secure solid structure constructed at an Oak Forest on the other end. All that you see in between is the gush of River Ganga flowing underneath you. At that elevation all one can hear is the ferocious flow of the River Ganga and your heartbeat. Experience of wind blowing to your skin is just unexplainable.
Uttarakhand is also a place for Trekkers. There are many peaks like Kedartal (16,110 Feet), Rupin Pass (15,250 Feet), etc.., to explore peaks. Uttarakhand is land for everyone.
Little did I know that Uttarakhand is the State of Highest peaks. And, one of the holiest places in India. The place where Lord Shiva and Vishnu reside at Kedarnath and Badrinath respectively. Ganga and Yamuna two of the holiest rivers in Hinduism the Ganges and Yamuna originate from Uttarakhand. Haridwar gateway to Lord Shiva. Haridwar hosts the Kumbh Mela, performed once in 12 years. In December 2017, UNESCO had included the event in its list of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Rishikesh Near Haridwar is said to be the yoga center of India.
No wonder I see Uttarakhand a land of mysteries and adventure.
